1. Overton Park Easter Egg Hunt

It’s not just about the egg hunt (although, what’s Easter without a hunt?). Come for face painting, photo booths, a cake walk, the Easter Bunny and more too. The event is hosted by Off Shoots Garden Club.
2. A Sweet Strangeness Thrills My Heart: The Journals of Sallie Independence Foster 1861-1887

Sallie Independence Foster was 12 years old and living in Florence, Alabama, in 1861 when the War Between the States began. She was keeping a diary at the time, and kept on keeping a diary for 26 years. This performance, based on Sallie’s diaries, papers, and letters from her brothers off at war, presents a funny, touching, and uniquely personal look at the life and times that Sallie shared with her paper “dear Companion.” Storyteller Dolores Hydock and music historian Bobby Horton interweave Sallie’s story with camp songs, period favorites, and original tunes to create a poignant, powerful, humorous, and honest picture of a world of innocence turned upside-down. Tickets are required.
3. Family Night: 6th Day Creatures

Animals and their human keepers are coming to the library for this special family night event, so come out to meet them.
4. Spring Plant Sale
April 12-14
Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Brookwood Village Macy’s Upper Parking Lot
Get your green thumb on and choose from more than 100,000 plants, most of which have been nurtured by volunteers at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Plant experts will be on-site and proceeds benefit The Gardens’ educational goals.
5. Easter Egg Roll

It’s not Easter without eggs. Bring your kids for this annual event of fun and hunting. BYOB…bring your own basket, that is.
6. Mountain Brook Schools Student Showcase
April 22 | 4-7 p.m.
Mountain Brook City Hall
Mountain Brook students of all grade levels will be showing what they’ve been up to in the classroom over the past school year, so you’ll want to check it out.
7. Chamber Luncheon Featuring Mary Wyatt
April 23 | 11 a.m.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Mary Wyatt, CEO of Wyatt General Contractor LLC, will speak on “It’s Always Darkest Before the Dawn” and reflect on lessons she’s learned as a woman in business for the past three years. This luncheon will be sponsored by St. Vincent’s. Get your tickets here.

9. Bargain Carousel

Get a deal on almost anything you can imagine at this annual Junior League of Birmingham sale to benefit their work throughout Birmingham. Tickets for Saturday admission go on sale Friday, April 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Bargain Carousel space.The cost is $10 for Saturday entry between 8 a.m. and noon and $5 from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. On Sunday, admission is free (but donations are appreciated), and merchandise is half price. This year they are asking for donations of diapers and/or wipes to help support the JLB Diaper Bank. While not required for admission on Sunday, we would appreciate any donations you can provide. Find more details here.
10. Shades Creek Fest

Jemison Park
Come out to celebrate the natural beauty of one of our favorite creeks with free fly-fishing lessons from caliber, hawk and owl visitors from the Alabama Wildlife Center, and music from the Chad Fisher Swing Band and bluegrass band Clear Blue Sky alongside an interpretive water dance. Plus you can grab lunch from a food truck and decorate owl-, fish- and frog-shaped cookies, and the City of Mountain Brook will giveaway native sassafras trees to celebrate Arbor Day. The Cahaba River Society, Freshwater Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy in Alabama, Cahaba Environmental Center and Cahaba Riverkeeper will also have interactive booths of their own and the Friends of Shades Creek and Friends of Jemison Park will be promoting the new Shades Creek book published by the Birmingham Historical Society.
11. Decorators’ ShowHouse 2019
April 27-May 12
Rooms in the Lemak estate will be decked out by local interior designers, so be sure to come by for a tour. ShowHouse hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday 2-5 p.m. There’s no parking at the house, so be sure to catch the shuttle from Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church at 3405 Brookwood Road. Tickets, $20 presale and for groups or $25 at the door, benefit the Alabama Symphony Volunteer Council. Find more info at svcalabama.com.

Everyone’s favorite spring arts show is making its home in May for the second year in a row. The annual Mountain Brook Art Association event will feature work by your favorite local artists and other fun family festivities.

Come out to Crestline Village as the employees of Mountain Brook will be teaching about the departments that run the city and all the services they have to offer. A free lunch will be provided, and there will be a Kid’s Zone with face painting, a slide, touch-a-truck and more fun.
