Spring is here and so are spring events. Here’s our roundup of what to do close to home this month.
1. The Spring Edit
Thursday, April 1 | 5-7:30 p.m.
Lane Parke
Come out to the shops of Lane Parke in Mountain Brook Village for live music, pop-ups including Doodles and more. Rele Street will be closed to maximize the family fun of the event, and organizer encourage you to dine at one of the restaurants while you are there.
2. Mountain Brook Contactless Easter Egg Hunt
April 2-4
Mountain Brook Villages
Look for eggs while you are walking or driving through the villages of Mountain Brook. You can also enjoy the merchants’ spring windowfronts along the way. If you spot a golden egg, email molly@mtnbrookchamber.org for the chance to win a golden prize.
3. City of Mountain Brook Document Destruction and Electronic Recycling Day
Saturday, April 3 | 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Mountain Brook High School Front Parking Lot
Been holding onto old electronics and documents? Bring them to MBHS for an on-site secure paper document destruction truck and an environmentally friendly way to dispose of most electronics with the exception of TVs and household appliances. Accepted items include, but are not limited to computers and laptops, cell phones, printers, servers, routers, DVD and VDR players, audio equipment, communications equipment, handheld games and consoles. The event will feature a drive-thru drop-off, and volunteers will help remove items from residents’ vehicles and transport the materials to the trucks. It is open to Mountain Brook residents and businesses.
4. Birmingham Botanical Gardens Spring Plant Sale
April 17-18
Online
The Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens is moving its annual Spring Plant Sale virtually this year. Hundreds of plants that have been specially selected for our region by six of the Friends’ dedicated volunteer growing groups will be available for online purchase and self-loading pickup at the Gardens. You can choose from dozens of varieties of natives, ferns, perennials, herbs, tropicals, houseplants, trees, and shrubs. Find more information at bbgardens.org/spring-plant-sale.php.
5. Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce 2021 Annual Luncheon
April 27 | 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Birmingham Zoo
It’s time to recognize visionaries in our city, and the chamber’s annual way of doing so is adapting to COVID times and moving outdoors in April this year. Come out to see former Mountain Brook Mayor Terry Oden receive the Jemison Visionary Award, Penny Page receive the O’Neal Library’s William Tynes Award, and Detective Drew Moore receive the City of Mountain Brook Employee of the Year—and learn why they are more than deserving of them.
