How We Met
Major and I (Margaret Anne) shared the same friends at University of Alabama. In Birmingham after college, we began talking and then went on a few dates. It was sweet to learn that my great grandfather and Major’s grandfather knew each other and had both worked as engineers with the Continental Gin Company many years earlier.
Favorite Moment
The weather was very turbulent the day of our wedding. We were able to have beautiful pictures taken outside, but as soon as we all were inside, a huge storm with gusty winds approached. Trees were blowing sideways and leaves and debris were flying everywhere. Luckily, the storm blew over, but storms continued popping up everywhere that day. Our wedding planner and reverend even delayed the wedding ceremony by fifteen minutes because trees were down in Crestline from the strong winds, blocking some of the major roads. While we were saying our vows, the lights in the church were blinking on and off for a few seconds, which added to the excitement!
Favorite Details
I wanted mostly white flowers with touches of greenery, and Mary Donald, my florist, made my dreams come true—from the silver family pitchers filled with flowers at my bridal luncheon, to the heirloom wedding gloves passed down in my family since the mid 1800s displayed, to the breathtaking orchid bridal bouquet. It was like stepping into a dream at the reception as well, with wreaths on the iron gates leading into OvenBird, hanging floral wreath with ribbons and candles under the tent canopy, and arrangements around the stage and throughout the space. The wedding cake was white with dainty white flowers spaced all around and looked beautiful on the table inside and tasted even better! OvenBird was the perfect spot for our reception. We danced the night away and were whisked off in an antique Jaguar at the end of the evening.
