HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?
Our story actually begins with our families. Both of our moms grew up in New Orleans, went to the same camp and later ended up in Mountain Brook, Alabama, where our parents settled and raised four kids each. My brothers first met Sam’s older brothers through baseball, and I met his twin sister through softball. We became high school sweethearts and spent many hours chatting in the cafeteria, school library and took long walks on the Cannon Ball Trail.
THE PROPOSAL
I was completely fooled the day Sam proposed. On Feb. 25, 2023, we were heading to Birmingham for a dinner celebrating his grandfather’s one year of going to heaven. Our plan was to stop by the Cannon Ball Trail–a normal walking spot for us–then meet his sister for drinks. When we got to our usual spot, I turned to go sit down. When I turned back, Sam was on one knee with a ring, asking me to marry him.
PREPARING FOR MARRIAGE
My 91-year-old grandfather gave us the best advice: Wake up each morning and ask yourself how you can make each other happy.
WEDDING MOMENTS
From dancing with our grandparents during our family dance to having Santa, Mrs. Claus, Buddy the Elf and the Grinch make an appearance, the day was filled with many special moments. What really stood out was the moment my wedding dress designer pulled out the delicate Italian lace to be used for my custom bolero. I was able to weave the lace design from my dress into all the different aspects of the wedding. The lace pattern became our “H” logo on the invitations, cups and more–a little Easter egg for those who noticed.
