Fall events look different than in years’ past, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with social distance. Here’s our roundup for this month.
1. Stories on the Lawn
Tuesdays | 10 a.m.
Lawn Outside the O’Neal Library
Kids ages birth to 4K are invited to reserve a spot for storytime on the grass across from the library. If it rains, the storytime will resume the next Tuesday. Register and find more programs on the library’s website.
2. SAT Strategy Seminar
Sept. 10 | 4-5 p.m.
Megan Hunter with The Princeton Review will lead a virtual strategy session for students. You can also sign up for an SAT practice test on Saturday, Sept. 19. Find more teen programs at the library here.
3. Virtual ZooRendezvous
Sept. 10 | 6:45 p.m.
Hosted by the Birmingham Zoo
It’s time for a luau virtual style, but don’t worry you can still eat well by ordering a dinner for two, charcuterie for four and/or wine packages to be delivered to you. You can also bid on auction items online from Sept. 3-12 and tune into the video portion of the event with Hawaiian-style with music by Electric Avenue and more Sept. 10 starting at 6:45 p.m. Find more details here.
4. Fall Plant Sale
Sept. 12 | 8 a.m.-Noon
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Find everything you need for your yard heading into colder weather with herbs, sustainable trees, fall annuals, shrubs, natives, perennials and more for sale. Plus, all the trees are natives selected especially for Birmingham’s climate and condition.
5. Quarantiki Cocktail Class
Tuesday, Sept. 22 | 6:30 – 8 p.m.
Zoom Meeting
Queen’s Park owner and nationally recognized bartender Laura Newman will lead in how to craft a Tiki cocktail to enjoy at home in this virtual class for adults ages 21 and up. Register for it and/or other virtual library programs here.

Virtual Pink Up the Pace 2020
Oct. 1-31
Support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama’s breast cancer research by running during the month of October. You can sign up for a time challenge, a distance challenge, or a 1-mile bike and scooter fun run, all offered virtually. The registration fee also includes a T-shirt. Tickets are $30 for adults (ages 13+) and $20 for children (ages 4-12), and children 3 and under are free. Get tickets at bcrfa.org/upcoming-events/.
