How We Met: I walked into history class at UAB the first day and couldn’t help but notice that the teacher’s assistant was quite attractive and had an awesome sense of style—his jacket had elbow pads and bowtie. When I handed in my final exam, he handed me a folded piece of notebook paper saying he wanted to get to know me better, asking me for coffee, and giving me his number.
Favorite Moment: As we were exiting the church, we were overwhelmed with joy and walked out to a perfect day into downtown Birmingham, and there was my cousin was standing on the curb in mirrored sunglasses holding open the door of my dad’s suburban and blaring celebration music at top volume.
Favorite Details: After the Rehearsal Dinner, some friends of my parents told us they had “special shoes” for us. We had no clue what they were talking about, but then we opened them and were instructed to turn them on. The soles of both pairs lit up with a variety of settings and came with a charger thereby ensuring everlasting light-up shoes. We ending up wearing them for the wedding reception.
I also wore my mother-in-law’s veil, which she saved even though she didn’t have a daughter just in case one of her son’s brides wanted to wear it one day, and I did. She made me an embroidered handkerchief with my new initials to carry with me too. We also used the engraved toasting goblets my grandparents used in their wedding.
