Bade Scruggs & Marty Schnurr: A Mountain Brook Wedding

How We Met: Marty and I (Bade) met at a New Orleans-themed bar in the lower east side of Manhattan. I had just moved to the city, and one of my girlfriends from UA invited me to a birthday party. It was love at first sight. We kept staring at each other from across the room. He figured I already had a hotshot Wall Street boyfriend. We finally got to talking and eventually went at sat by ourselves at a table away from the rest of the party to continue talking about our love for the same music and getting to know each other. We’ve been best friends ever since!

The Proposal: It was before Christmas of 2014. We had thrown a birthday party the night before, and he insisted we drive over to Connecticut to his parents’ house to get a present for his brother. When we got there, he asked me to go on our favorite hike, “Bear Swamp.” I was dreading getting back into the cold, but I knew something was up so I bundled up and obliged. We got to our favorite, most picturesque spot, and he got down on one knee. When we got back to his parents’, they had champagne and lobster waiting for us. We went back later and carved our initials into a tree nearby.

The Wedding Dress: “Anna Maier” by Ulla-Maija. I tried it on and fell in love with it at Bergdorf (I was working one block from their NYC flagship at the time), and bought it second-hand online.
